Auldern Academy is a premiere North Carolina boarding school situated on 86 scenic, wooded acres on the Rocky River. This location makes our all-girls boarding school easily accessible from Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.  The student program consists of three overlapping components, the Academic Program, the Counseling Services Program, and the Student Life Program. This tripartite approach reflects Auldern Academy’s commitment to meeting the needs of the whole student, intellectually, emotionally and socially.


Position Overview:

  • The Student Life Counselor’s primary responsibility is to accomplish program objectives as delegated by the Director of Student Life and Head of School. The goal is to ensure that program integrity and the therapeutic environment including group, individual counseling, and experiential education is maintained.
  • The Student Life Counselor is responsible for maintaining supervision, ensuring the health and safety of the students, providing documentation, teaching life skills and social skills, utilizing teaching moments, and helping the students learn skills to be successful when they leave Auldern.
  • The Student Life Counselor is expected to build relationships with the students while also being the disciplinarian and maintaining healthy boundaries.
  • The Student Life Counselor provides group counseling and individual counseling as well as structure throughout the weekends and evenings.
  • The Student Life Counselor actively participates as a part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team to assist adolescent girls with their behavioral, emotional, or substance abuse issues.
  • The Student Life Counselor position requires shift work, with shifts ranging from working 2-3 days at a time (48-72 hour shifts).


Job Requirements:

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social work, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Must be willing to learn and grow, be open to giving and receiving feedback, and be willing to be a vocal part of a team.  
  • Must have good judgment and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

Preference will be given to candidates with specific experience working in a 24/7 therapeutic environment with adolescents with behavioral, emotional, or substance abuse needs.
