At TREND a Systems Engineer is integral in the development, maintenance, and support of TREND’s technical infrastructure.   This individual is expected to contribute technical leadership and participation in all phases of the development life cycle, in addition to a broad range of experience with custom and packaged technical applications, including operating systems and integrations with applications, databases, servers, websites, and communication networks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains and supports technical infrastructure, hardware and system software components.
  • Performs installation, maintenance and support of system software/hardware.
  • Configures, debugs, and supports multiple infrastructure platforms.
  • Performs system backups and recovery along with performing root cause analysis for service interruption recovery and creates preventive measures.
  • Develops detailed system design specifications to serve as a guide for system/program development.
  • Works closely with end users in the identification and documentation of business requirements and potential application solutions.
  • Codes, tests, debugs, and documents complex programs, and enhances existing programs.
  • Maintains computer systems and programming guidelines.
  • Implement and maintain security procedures and processes.
  • Provides guidance and training to end users and technical support staff.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex support issues.


  • Minimum of five years progressive experience in systems development or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or in a related discipline preferred; or a combination of education and experience to provide equivalent knowledge and skill.
  • Microsoft certification MCSA/MCSE preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong project planning skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience and skill interacting with a variety of personalities at all levels of the organization in a tactful, professional and service-driven manner.
  • Strong listening, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work outside core business hours to meet the needs of the business.
  • Proven time management skills with the ability to adjust to changes in priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment is essential.
  • Must be goal-oriented with strong focus on adding value to TREND.

Areas of Technical Competence


  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, MYSQL, DB2


  • Experienced administering and/or familiar with the following: SharePoint Foundation Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft DNS server, Active Directories, IBM Rational (Eclipse), Tomcat, Apache, IIS(Internet Information Services), and Server side API’s.
  • Strong skills in managing: Microsoft Windows (2003, XP, 7), Microsoft Server (2000, 2003, 2008)
  • Familiar with ETL tools (SSIS, Data Integrator etc.), OSX Server
  • Knowledgeable in virtualized and cloud-based computing environments

Programming Languages

  • Experience/knowledge using: JavaScript, JAVA, SQL, .NET
  • Strong scripting skills including Powershell


  • Experienced with object oriented software
  • Experienced working with advanced features in Microsoft Windows Office software(Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, Visio)
  • Familiar in IBM Rational(Eclipse), Visual Studio, SharePoint Designer, Dreamweaver, help desk software
